‘Black Wall Street Legacy Festival’ Recap!

May 30, 2022 by Quentin Marcellis

This year I attended, and performed my singles ‘Four Wings’ and a special unreleased remix 🎷 of my single ‘Carefree Black Boy’ featuring fellow local artist ‘Clutch Barz’ for the ‘Black Wall Street Legacy Festival.

This festival is a celebration of black heritage in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and also commemorates the ‘1921 Race Tulsa Riot Massacre.’ The Tulsa race massacre took place on May 31, and June 1, 1921, when mobs of white residents, some of whom had been deputized, and given weapons by city officials, attacked Black residents, and destroyed homes, and businesses of the Greenwood District. The event is considered one of the single worst incidents for racial violence in American History, and is believed to be one of the deadliest territory attacks in the history of the United States. The attackers burned and destroyed more than 35 square blocks of the neighborhood – at the time one of the wealthiest Black communities in the United States, known as "Black Wall Street".

I’m proud to be born and raised from Greenwood, the Northside of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and have the opportunity to celebrate, honor, and uplift my black history, and culture.

The Legacy festival is sponsored by the ‘ Terrence Crutcher Foundation.’ A non profit organization who I have had the privilege to volunteer, and canvas for, based in Tulsa Oklahoma, and created by Tiffany Crutcher. She started this organization in light of her brother #TerranceCrutcher, a black man who was innocently shot in Tulsa, and killed by police in 2016, while holding his hands in the air crying #HandsUpDontShoot ✋🏾 Visit https://www.terencecrutcherfoundation.org/ for more information.

Affirmation: “I am the Legacy. This is my HIStory!” ✊🏾

“I grew up in a little town named T-town.”- #FourWings🕊 Also know as Greenwood. 🌳 Shoutout to Steph Simon, producer of #FireInLittleAfrica, (a local hip hop music group) for the hometown merchandise drip! Reminding me to support local artist! Get your merchandise at https://fireinlittleafrica.com/
